Great video. But I got my self into trouble and I need some help. I replaced by timing belt in by daughters 2005 xc70 with dual VVTs. While doing the belt I discovered the camshaft seals were leaking slightly. I got the seals and the cam locking tool. Replaced the seals and and got all three timing marks line up - again with camshaft locking tool in place. Then put the belt on and adjusted the tension. Tensioning the belt pulled the exhaust VVT about one tooth past (towards rear of car) the timing mark. I turned it over by hand three times no contact. All timing marks went back like before including the exhaust one tooth off of timing mark. So started the car, everything great for a minute then started getting error code. P0016 camshaft and crankshaft not in alignment. My question to you is Can I pull it back apart, install the camshaft locking tool again, remove the belt, line up timing marks and put the exhaust VVT one tooth on the other side of the timing mark, install and tension the belt. Idea is the tensioning will pull the exhaust VVT to be directly in line with timing mark.

I’m still convinced Robert invented Volvo and then time traveled to the present to help us fix them.

Do you think is there big difference if you turn one or couple bolt more than 130 degrees? Like 140 degrees? We did that same thing but my friend hold that stopper and I turned with breaker bar. Every bolt is minium 125 or 130. I think its good to go. In the future, we will use that technique.

Robert, you are awesome! Very kind of you to post this kind of information. By the way, for the first time, my 1992 Volvo 960 is starting to flash the orange up arrow on my instrument cluster. Any idea where the PNP switch is located on the 1992 volvo 960? I'm guessing somewhere on the transmission. On this car things are arranged differently than front wheel drive volvos being a rear-wheel drive car. I did try turning the key to position 2 and moved the shifter from park all the way to low for 20 times. That worked for about a day but now problem came back. Also, the reverse lights do come on when the shifter goes to the reverse position.

Good job, that fan is a pain of a job. Just as bad on right hand drive cars and yes you still break the same tab on the back

I have an 850 glt from 1992 but bought a Rear Spoiler with the Third Breaklight in the middle (the spoiler is from 1994 or 95) is there a problem to combind the cable from the light to my 1992 glt but i didn'd seen a spot to conect the cable from the spoiler with the car. Thanks Robert - just did this job on our 1998 V70 - went and took off a donor vehicle yesterday that someone was parting out (grabbed some good headlights too). Your instructions were great. I would add one other bit of info...the clip on the machine screw that holds the middle support of the rails is different from the one on the front and rear supports ....it has 2 "ears" on it that I think are positioned horizontally. The front and rear supports have clips with one long "ear" that should be oriented vertically and upwards. Easy to miss this if tearing the rails off quickly. Last thought - up here in BC, Canada we found lots of rust on the clips that hold the trim - a few fell apart...so keep the ones on the trim you take of and the ones on the trim from the donor car. Robert - your videos are _fantastic_ - thank you so much!!

Great explanation. So regarding your other video and shared wisdom here I also have noticed with my van not starting: 1) smell of gas when it doesn’t turn over 2) cold starting it I see the temp gauge get to operating range (medium between C & H) very fast 3) bad gas millage. Gonna get the sensor and change it out in a bit and will let you know. Thanks again, you channel is awesome!

Hey Robert next time chuck the valve in a drill and use it as a holder and to spin it while removing the carbon.

Robert I got an exhaust leak at my flex pipe that is connected to the exhaust manifold on my S70. What’s best? To replace the exhaust manifold with a used piece or have the muffler guys put a straight pipe. My muffler is rotted out also

I'm nearly sure you can re-key. Locksmiths can make miracles happen. I heard about a man who rekeyed his front door so his Volvo key would open his front door and his house. People do strange stuff in this world. :)
